The Art, Design & Architecture Pathway prepares students for entry level positions in design fields such as architecture, interior design, graphic design, illustration, industrial design, theater set design, exhibit design and art education. These careers require an understanding of the principles of art and design. Students will earn dual credit from The Institute of American Indian Arts and Santa Fe Community College.

Dual Credit Courses with Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) and Santa Fe Community College (SFCC):

IAIA FUND104 DIGITAL ARTS FUNDAMENTALS (3 CREDITS) This course concentrates on the fundamentals of research, design, creation, and production of raster and vector digital imagery. Students will learn the foundational principles, functionality, and strategies of Adobe Photoshop for producing raster imagery and Adobe Illustrator for producing vector imagery. This course will engage students in the technical, conceptual, and aesthetic aspects of digital imagery. 

IAIA DIGA101 INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL ARTS (3 CREDITS) This introductory level course builds on the vector and raster imaging techniques learned in FUND104. Students will be introduced to digital fabrication tools, techniques, and practices and their use in contemporary art. In this course students will create projects using laser cutting, vinyl cutting, and water jet cutting, completing assignments in both 2D and 3D fabrication. Central to this class will be the discussion of digital fabrication as a tool, a supplement to other practices, its advantages, and limitations, digital vs. physical, aesthetics, and the ability to easily produce multiples. This course will push students to address digital fabrication as a working methodology and practice that can be melded with traditional methods and practices. (Prerequisite: FUND104).

IAIA FUND101 2D FUNDAMENTALS (3 CREDITS) This course is an introduction to the basic elements and vocabulary of two-dimensional design, covering line, shape, space, texture, and basic fundamentals of color. Projects will emphasize creative solutions to visual problems through the study of two-dimensional models of pictorial organization. 

SFCC BASIC BLUEPRINT READING (2 CREDITS) Introduction of symbols, scaled measurements, and specifications necessary for reading construction plans. Plumbing drawings are analyzed and interpreted. Practice of basic methods of sketching and design. Material and take-off lists are prepared.
