Teacher Appreciation Week
Yesterday, students from Santa Fe High, Capital High, Early College Opportunities (ECO), and Mandela International Magnet School joined forces in the Governor’s School Community Challenge! They took to the parks of our beautiful city - SWAN, Ragle, Villa Linda, and Salvador Perez - to tackle the pressing issue of litter. A special shoutout to the Naval JROTC team from Santa Fe High, who collected over 60 bags of trash at Salvador Perez Park, earning them a trophy and a $1,000 prize! Congratulations also to the mixed team from Capital High and other schools who took a proud second place, and cheers to the teams from the Boys & Girls Clubs and Santa Fe High for tying in third place. Let’s keep our community clean and vibrant! 🌳💪

The Santa Fe High School (SFHS) Band will be sporting new band uniforms within the next year. The new uniforms are being purchased with $164,000 in federal ESSER funds, which are set to expire in September. "It's wonderful to have a little pot of remaining ESSER funding to provide this important need and SFPS Board of Education priority. We look forward to seeing the SFHS Band perform in their new attire at their home stadium and at other venues far and wide," said Superintendent Hilario "Larry" Chavez. In making its request to the New Mexico Public Education Department to use ESSER funding to purchase the band uniforms, SFPS said, "Band performances help reignite our schools as centers of our community and culture, and in turn will boost school attendance. Furthermore, music performances are part of culturally relevant instruction and practice." Learn more: https://go.sfps.info/4-5Bulletin

The new 180-day rule was announced today by the New Mexico Public Education Department. We are reviewing the rule to ensure that SFPS' flexible 2024-25 school year calendar, adopted by the SFPS Board of Education in February, aligns with the new requirements. The start date for the 2024-25 school calendar will not be affected by this change. We thank you for your understanding and support as we work diligently on any needed updates. You can expect more details from us in the next few weeks.
